US Forces Eliminate Key ISIS LeaderOn June 24, U.S. Central Command issued a statement announcing that U.S. airstrikes launched on June 19 in northwestern Syria killed Ali Hussein Ulewi, a key leader of the Islamic State (ISIS). The statement added that “this is part of the United States’ sustained efforts to target and eliminate terrorists plotting attacks against Americans overseas or on U.S. soil.”

Short-Term Armed Clashes Erupt Between Iran and the United StatesFrom June 22 to 28, following the signing of a memorandum, Iran and the United States held the first round of talks in Switzerland on June 22, engaging in technical negotiations covering a Lebanon ceasefire, management of the Strait of Hormuz, and the unfreezing of Iranian frozen assets. Short-term armed confrontations broke out between the two sides amid the talks.On June 26, U.S. fighter jets launched airstrikes targeting Iran’s missile and drone storage facilities and coastal radar sites. On June 27, U.S. combat aircraft struck ten Iranian military assets in and around the Strait of Hormuz, including military surveillance installations, communication systems, air defense positions, drone storage depots and mine-laying equipment. The U.S. claimed the strikes were a response to attacks on merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, drawing a fierce retaliatory response from Iran.On June 27, the Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran launched strikes against multiple U.S. military targets across the Middle East. On June 28, IRGC Navy and Air Force units deployed missiles and drones to hit eight critical U.S. infrastructure sites: Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and U.S. Fifth Fleet assets based in Bahrain.Iran stated that the U.S. had once again breached its commitments by launching military strikes on Iran’s coast during negotiations. Article 5 of the Iran-U.S. Memorandum of Understanding stipulates that Iran holds full authority to regulate maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, yet the U.S. has repeatedly instigated various factions and violated the agreement to fuel regional instability.

Israel-Palestine Conflict Death Toll in Gaza Tops 73,000Between June 22 and 28, Israel carried out strikes across multiple locations in Gaza, causing heavy casualties.On June 26, an Israeli drone targeted a vehicle near the entrance to the Maghazi Refugee Camp in central Gaza, killing four people including three police officers from Gaza’s Interior Ministry. The same day, a Palestinian youth was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza.Latest figures released by the Gaza Ministry of Health on June 26 show that 1,031 Palestinians have been killed and 3,309 injured in Israeli military operations since the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement took effect on October 10, 2025. Ankara Security Forces Kill ISIS SuspectOn June 23, a firefight erupted between police and a suspect linked to the extremist group ISIS in Ankara, Turkey’s capital; the suspect was killed, and his wife sustained injuries.Acting on intelligence, police raided a residence in the Haymana District of Ankara, sparking an exchange of gunfire. The suspect, Muhammed Kavi, was shot dead at the scene, and his injured wife was taken into police custody.

Militants rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the compound’s gate that night, followed by a firefight between security forces and attackers in which four militants were killed. The extremist armed group Tehreek-e-Azadi Balochistan claimed responsibility for the bombing.

Currently, 387 patients are under isolation or hospital treatment, with 115 recoveries and 277 fatalities. There are an additional 131 suspected cases, 44 of which resulted in deaths. The report noted weekly increases in confirmed infections, indicating sustained and intensifying community transmission.The same day, WHO official Abdirahman Mahmoud stated that the current outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola virus. This week, Al-Obeid, capital of North Kordofan State in central Sudan, became the focal point of fighting, with both sides launching continuous artillery and drone airstrikes and ground assaults targeting urban areas and military barracks.The RSF now controls all territory in West Kordofan State and maintains sieges around the capitals of North and South Kordofan States. Local civil organizations report at least 50 civilian deaths from recent combat operations. Urban water, electricity and fuel supplies have been almost entirely cut off, multiple medical centers have closed, and public services are nearly paralyzed.

Cholera Outbreak Kills 24On June 26, the CAR Ministry of Health and Population announced a cholera outbreak that began in mid-June in Bimbo and Mbaïki in the country’s southwest, with a cumulative 197 confirmed cases and 24 deaths.Cholera is an acute intestinal infectious disease caused by Vibrio cholerae, transmitted primarily through contaminated water and food. Typical symptoms include vomiting, severe diarrhea, dehydration and high fever; severe cases or delayed treatment can lead to death.

Shooting in California Kills TwoOn June 22, a shooting occurred at a branch of the Butte County Library in Chico, California, leaving two dead and one injured. Police arrested the suspect as he fled through a rear exit after the attack; the motive remains under investigation.

Russia-Ukraine Armed Conflict ContinuesHeavy fighting between Russia and Ukraine persisted from June 22 to 28.The Russian Ministry of Defense released a weekly combat briefing stating that Russian tactical aviation, missile and artillery units carried out large-scale strikes targeting Ukrainian refineries, fuel and energy infrastructure, transport hubs and military fuel depots. Targets also included facilities for assembling and storing long-range Ukrainian drones, plus 142 temporary deployment sites housing Ukrainian troops and foreign mercenaries. Russian forces shot down 28 guided aerial bombs and 2,483 fixed-wing drones. The Russian Black Sea Fleet destroyed four Ukrainian unmanned surface vessels in the southwestern Black Sea waters and seized control of 204 buildings in Lyman and Konstantinovka, Donetsk Oblast.Ukraine’s General Staff of the Armed Forces reported continuous strikes on highway and railway bridges connecting Crimea to mainland Ukraine and southern frontlines. Ukrainian air defense and electronic warfare units intercepted nine Russian missiles and 2,174 drones, recapturing six residential settlements in the Lyman and Zaporizhzhia axes.
