Hanwei Global Security Briefing

Per security risk assessments, regional security levels are marked on the Global Risk Map. Extremely high-risk areas include Afghanistan, Syria, Myanmar, Pakistan, Nigeria, Sudan, Ukraine, Palestine and Venezuela. Armed conflicts, terrorist attacks and other security incidents occur frequently in these regions during this period. Chinese-funded enterprises overseas shall strengthen safety precautions.

Middle East

I. Iraq

Three militants killed in Nineveh Governorate

On June 3, Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces launched a security operation in Nineveh Governorate, northern Iraq, killing three ISIL militants, including a local ISIL leader in charge of logistical support.

Shooting leaves two dead in Maysan Governorate

Media reports stated that a gunfight broke out in a civil servant community in Amara, capital of Maysan Governorate, on May 31, killing two people. Police have arrested one suspect, and the investigation is ongoing.

II. Iran

New round of military clashes with the United States
No progress was made in Iran-US talks from June 1 to 7, and fresh military confrontations broke out.
On the night of June 2, U.S. forces attacked an Iranian oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz, disabling the vessel, and airstruck a Revolutionary Guards communication station on Qeshm Island.
In retaliation on June 3, the Aerospace Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps struck U.S. military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain with missiles and drones.
On June 5 and 6, U.S. forces carried out airstrikes on coastal radar stations in Geruk and Qeshm Island of Iran, shooting down four Iranian attack drones. Iran subsequently launched ballistic missiles at U.S. Air Force bases in Kuwait and facilities of the U.S. Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. No casualties were reported on either side so far.
Armed clash kills four in Sistan and Baluchestan Governorate
On June 7, Iranian security forces engaged in a firefight with an armed group in Saravan, southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan Governorate, killing four terrorists and seizing a large cache of weapons and ammunition.

III. Palestine & Israel

Palestinian death toll in Gaza hits 72,800+

Israel launched continuous strikes across Gaza from June 1 to 7, causing heavy casualties.

June 2: Israeli airstrikes targeted a vehicle in Deir al-Balah and a displaced persons camp in Khan Yunis, killing three and injuring multiple people.

June 4: Israeli forces bombed multiple residential buildings in Gaza City, leaving at least nine dead and 15 injured.

June 6: A temporary tent camp for displaced people in western Gaza City was struck, killing six (including two women) and injuring 15.

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, since the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire deal took effect in October 2025, Israeli military operations have killed 951 Palestinians and wounded 2,984. Since the large-scale Israel-Palestine conflict erupted on October 7, 2023, Israeli attacks on Gaza have caused 72,823 deaths and 172,870 injuries.

Shooting in Kochav Ya'ir leaves 3 dead and 5 injured

A shooting incident occurred in Kochav Ya'ir, central Israel, on June 7, killing three people (including two suspects) and injuring five, two of whom were in critical condition. The incident unfolded at three separate locations. Israeli troops and security forces have been deployed to the surrounding areas.


IV. Lebanon

Heavy casualties from ongoing Israeli strikes

Israel kept launching military attacks on Lebanon from June 1 to 7 with severe casualties:

June 1: Airstrikes near Jabal Amal Hospital in Tyre killed four and injured 127 (including 39 medical workers).

June 2: Marwaniyeh in Sidon was targeted, leaving six dead and four injured.

June 3: Drone attacks in Tyre killed six, including four Syrians and two Palestinians.

June 4: A series of airstrikes on southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley killed at least nine and wounded dozens.

June 6: An Israeli airstrike hit a Lebanese government patrol in Nabatiyeh, killing two officers and one soldier.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry updated on June 6 that since the resumption of hostilities on March 2, Israeli attacks have killed 3,558 people and injured 10,870 across Lebanon.

UNIFIL attacked: one peacekeeper killed, two injured
On June 3, a mortar attack targeted the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Marjayoun, southern Lebanon, killing one peacekeeper and wounding two. The UN once again called on all parties to abide by international law and safeguard the safety of UN personnel and properties.
One Israeli soldier killed in attack
On June 4, an Israeli soldier was killed when a Hezbollah fighter fired an anti-tank missile at an Israeli tank north of the Litani River.

V. Bahrain

Missile and drone attacks

Bahrain’s Ministry of Defence announced on June 3 that missiles and drones launched from Iran targeted Juffair in Manama. No casualties or property damage were reported. Bahraini air defence forces intercepted three missiles and several drones.


VI. Kuwait

Iranian attacks cause one death and 63 injuries

Kuwait’s Health Ministry confirmed on June 3 that multiple civilian facilities including Kuwait International Airport came under attack by Iranian ballistic missiles and drones, leaving one person dead and 63 injured.



Asia-Pacific Region

I. Afghanistan

Bus crash in Parwan Governorate: 8 dead, 16 injured

On June 2, a coach bus lost control and plunged into a ravine on a mountain road in Shinwari District, Parwan Governorate. Eight people (including four children) were killed and 16 injured.


II. Pakistan

17 militants killed in Balochistan

Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations stated on June 2 that following a bomb attack on a passenger train in southwestern Balochistan on May 24, security forces conducted a series of counter-terrorism operations, killing 17 terrorists and seizing weapons, ammunition and numerous improvised explosive devices (IEDs).


III. Indonesia

Homicide in East Java: one fatality

A stabbing incident took place in Soketlaok Village, Tulakan District, Bangkalan Regency, East Java on June 3, killing one person. The attacker remains at large, and police are conducting a manhunt.


IV. Myanmar

Warehouse explosion in Shan State injures a Chinese national

Media reports said an explosives warehouse in Nankham Town, Shan State exploded on May 31, killing 43 people and wounding many, including one Chinese citizen. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.


V. Philippines

Security alert issued by Chinese Embassy

The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines released a notice on June 3. Frequent interrogations, harassment and selective law enforcement targeting Chinese citizens and enterprises have raised security risks. The embassy reminded Chinese nationals and businesses in the Philippines to closely monitor local developments, tighten security precautions, abide by local laws and regulations, operate legally and avoid overstaying.



Africa

I. Nigeria

Multiple attacks leave 28 dead and 43 abducted

According to Hanwei International West Africa Security Officers:

Late May 31: Armed bandits raided Dangulbi Community in Tureta Local Government Area, Sokoto State, killing at least 17 people (including seven tourists celebrating Eid al-Fitr) and looting shops.

Same night: Gunmen attacked Gwon-Ajang Village in Foron, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State, killing eight and injuring over ten.

June 1: Ayegunle Bunu Community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, Kogi State was attacked, with two dead and 30 abducted.

June 3: Gunmen kidnapped the sister of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adedabu and her 12-year-old twin sons in Ibadan.

June 4: Six students were abducted in Zamfara State, northwest Nigeria.

Early June 5: A community in the Federal Capital Territory came under fire; one security officer was killed and four abducted.


II. South Africa

Violent clashes in Western Cape: four dead

Clashes between local residents and Mozambican migrants broke out in Mossel Bay, Western Cape on June 1, killing at least four Mozambicans and injuring many others.


III. Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)

Armed attack in North Kivu: 16 dead

The DRC government stated that a neighbourhood in Beni, North Kivu came under attack by the Ugandan rebel group Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) on May 31. Sixteen people (15 civilians and one soldier) were killed, and many houses damaged. The military is hunting the attackers and enhancing civilian protection.

Shipwreck in Tshopo Province: 60 missing

A boat capsized on the Aruwimi River north of Kisangani, capital of Tshopo Province on June 2, leaving more than 60 people missing. Overloading is suspected to be the cause, and search and rescue efforts are ongoing.

Ebola outbreak spreading rapidly

Latest WHO data released on June 6 showed a total of 471 Ebola cases and 84 deaths in the DRC and Uganda. Around 100 new cases and 20 new deaths were recorded in one day. The WHO and Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention have jointly launched a 518 million US dollar emergency response plan for the next six months to strengthen epidemic surveillance, laboratory testing and infection control.


IV. Sudan

Continuous armed conflicts
Fierce fighting continued between the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces across Sudan from June 1 to 7. Both sides fought fiercely over strategic transport hubs, mineral and oil resources, and supply lines in Darfur, Kordofan and Blue Nile State, causing massive civilian casualties.

June 1: Drone strikes on two civilian vehicles in West Kordofan killed 10 people (including eight children) and injured many.

June 3: Successive attacks on markets and civilian vehicles in South Darfur killed over 40 civilians and wounded dozens.

According to the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project, the over three-year conflict in Sudan has caused at least 59,000 deaths and left 34 million people in need of humanitarian aid.


V. Somalia

Clashes in Mogadishu: 3 dead, 8 injured

Gunfights between opposition fighters and Somali security forces erupted in Mogadishu from June 3 to 4, leaving three dead and eight injured.


VI. Mali

Roadside bomb attack in Kayes Region: 8 dead, 42 injured

On June 1, a passenger bus was hit by a roadside bomb near Kita Town, Kayes Region, killing eight people and injuring 42. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.




Europe & Americas

I. United States

Four shooting incidents: 8 dead, 17 injured

June 1: A spree shooting in Muscatine, Iowa left seven dead including the perpetrator, who killed six family members at two residences and a store before committing suicide. The incident stemmed from a family dispute.

June 3: A shooting in the parking lot of a high school in Northern California killed one and injured three.

June 6: Two separate shootings occurred in Raleigh, North Carolina (two injured, suspect arrested) and Toledo, Ohio (12 injured).

II. Ukraine

Russia-Ukraine conflict persists
From June 1 to 7, armed confrontations continued.
Russia’s Defence Ministry reported launching one large-scale strike and six group strikes against Ukraine’s defence enterprises, fuel storage facilities and military airfields using hypersonic ballistic missiles and drones. Russian tactical aviation and missile forces targeted 133 training grounds, drone launch sites and temporary troop deployment areas, shooting down 3,084 unmanned aerial vehicles and seizing two settlements in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia.

Ukraine’s General Staff said its air force and missile units used HIMARS rocket systems and long-range missiles to strike Russian supply hubs, troop assembly areas, command posts, radar stations and artillery in Crimea, shooting down 2,046 Russian drones. Ukrainian forces recaptured six settlements in Kharkiv, Sumy and other regions, and kept launching long-range strikes against energy targets in Russia and Russian-controlled areas. 


III. Russia

Ukrainian drone attacks: 7 dead, 14 injured

June 3: Drone strikes hit Saint Petersburg (Leningrad Oblast) and Michurinsk (Tambov Oblast), damaging apartment buildings, a library, a school and a factory. A bus travelling from Moscow to Simferopol, Crimea was attacked in Donetsk, killing at least seven and injuring 11.

June 6: Large-scale drone attacks on Saint Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast left three people injured.


IV. Panama

Prison break in Panama Province: 3 dead

A massive prison breakout took place in Panama Province on June 1, killing three and injuring nine. A total of 195 inmates escaped; 123 have been recaptured, and the investigation is underway.


V. Brazil

Attack in São Paulo State: one dead

June 1: A shooting in Espranada Jardim Community, Piracicaba caused no casualties, and the suspect was arrested.

A homicide case in Jaguariúna left one person dead. Police are investigating.


VI. Chile

Shooting in San Joaquín: one fatality
A shooting on Francesca di Rimini Passage, San Joaquín, Santiago Metropolitan Region on May 31 killed one person.
Burglary in Quilicura: two injured
A home invasion on Las Margaritas Street, Quilicura, Santiago Province on June 1 injured two residents.

VII. Germany

Attack in Dortmund-Höchsten: one police officer injured

On June 2, a man caused trouble in a restaurant and opened fire on responding police officers in Dortmund-Höchsten, injuring one officer. The suspect was arrested on the spot.


VIII. Mexico

LPG tank garage explosion in Tepeaca: three injured

An explosion and subsequent fire broke out at a garage storing liquefied petroleum gas tankers in Tepeaca, Puebla State on June 4, injuring three people. Around 2,000 residents were evacuated. The fire has been put out and the cause is under investigation.


IX. France

Riots amid football celebrations

After Paris Saint-Germain won the UEFA Champions League title on June 1, celebratory gatherings across France turned into riots. Incidents including attacks on police and theft occurred, and public facilities were damaged. Nearly 900 people have been arrested nationwide.

Maritime Security

I. Persian Gulf

Oil tanker attacked by U.S. forces

U.S. Central Command announced on June 2 that a U.S. aircraft fired missiles at the empty oil tanker LEXIE (flag of Botswana) sailing towards Kharg Island, Iran, disabling the vessel. The U.S. side claimed the tanker ignored repeated warnings. A Hellfire missile was fired at its engine room to halt navigation.


II. Eastern Pacific

U.S. strike leaves two dead

U.S. Southern Command stated on June 3 that U.S. forces attacked an alleged drug trafficking vessel in the Eastern Pacific, killing two people on board. No U.S. military casualties were reported.


III. Sea of Azov

Two cargo ships attacked: 5 dead, 3 injured

Hajizade, spokesperson of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that two foreign cargo ships came under drone attack in the Sea of Azov in the early hours of June 5. Five Azerbaijani nationals on board were killed and three injured. The two vessels carried 25 Azerbaijani crew in total. Azerbaijan is coordinating with relevant countries over the incident.


IV. Black Sea

Fishing boat attacked: 1 dead, 4 injured

A Turkish-flagged fishing boat sank after a drone attack in the Black Sea on June 5, killing one fisherman and injuring four. The vessel was fishing west of Crimea when targeted. The perpetrator remains unknown.


V. Malta

Migrant boat capsizes: 10 dead
A boat carrying around 60 irregular migrants capsized near Malta on June 7, leaving 10 dead and at least two missing. The vessel departed from Libya. Forty-eight survivors have been rescued, and search operations for the missing continue.
