Corporate News   October 4, 2019

On October 4, 2019, Hanwei International Security Escort Co., Ltd. undertook the maritime escort mission for the special work vessel "ORION I" owned by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., sailing from Shanghai to Europe via the Gulf of Aden. As the vessel was newly built with low freeboard and slow speed, and the shipowner did not agree to install fixed anti-piracy facilities, the company assessed that the vessel had a high risk of being hijacked. Therefore, it was decided to dispatch 6 armed security personnel to board the vessel for this voyage's escort mission.

On October 14, after the security personnel boarded the vessel, they immediately held a safety meeting and arranged anti-piracy watches. They conducted a thorough inspection of all the vessel's anti-piracy facilities, installed anti-piracy nets, and set up fire hoses. Meanwhile, in suitable waters, the security personnel organized anti-piracy training and drills for all crew members, conducted weapon test firing, ensuring that anti-piracy measures were in place, weapons were in good condition, and personnel deployment was clear, fully preparing for passing through the pirate-threatened waters of the Gulf of Aden. Based on the company's assessment, to increase safety, the "ORION I" work vessel was organized to join the 33rd Chinese Navy escort fleet in the Gulf of Aden, ensuring the vessel remained under the protection of naval escort ships. In the early hours of the 27th, the "ORION I" work vessel, under the escort of naval ships, entered the waters of the Gulf of Aden. The company's armed security personnel remained highly vigilant, adopting a two-person watch on both sides to monitor all maritime targets, promptly identifying and dealing with fast-approaching threats. With the strong support of the captain and the effective protection of the naval ships, the vessel safely passed through the pirate zone and entered the Red Sea on the afternoon of the 29th. On November 4, the company's maritime escort personnel disembarked, successfully completing the anti-piracy escort mission for this high-risk vessel, receiving unanimous praise and gratitude from the shipowner and vessel management company.
