[2024] Philippines Security Situation Warning

  June 22, 2024

On June 21, a Chinese citizen and a Chinese-American were kidnapped for ransom in the Philippines. To ensure the hostages' safety, their families paid the ransom as demanded by the kidnappers. However, after receiving the payment, the kidnappers killed both victims on the 24th. In recent months, the social security situation in Manila and other areas of the Philippines has deteriorated, with frequent incidents targeting Chinese citizens. Statistics show that from January to June this year, there have been at least 6 kidnapping cases targeting Chinese citizens, requiring high vigilance from Chinese compatriots in the Philippines.

In view of the security situation in the Philippines, Chinese citizens traveling to or residing in the Philippines are reminded to enhance their safety awareness and strengthen personal protection measures. In case of emergencies, please call the police immediately and contact the Chinese Embassy or Consulates in the Philippines for assistance.
