 According to security risk assessments, regional security levels are as indicated on the Global Risk Map. Afghanistan, Syria, Myanmar, Pakistan, Nigeria, Sudan, Ukraine, Palestine, and Venezuela are classified as extremely high-risk areas. During this period, security incidents such as armed conflicts and terrorist attacks occurred frequently in these regions. Middle East

(I) Syria

New agreement reached between the transitional government and the Syrian Democratic Forces.On January 30, the Syrian Transitional Government and the Kurdish-dominated Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reached a new ceasefire agreement.

Provisions include the withdrawal of SDF and Syrian Transitional Government forces from current contact lines, the integration of local administrative institutions in SDF-controlled areas into Syrian state institutions, the guarantee of Kurdish citizenship rights, and the return of displaced persons to their homes.


(II) Iraq

Terrorist attack foiled in Anbar Governorate.On January 27, Iraqi security forces foiled a suicide bombing plot in Anbar Governorate, western Iraq.

Acting on intelligence, security forces arrested an Islamic State militant wearing an explosive belt inside a restaurant, preventing a terrorist attack.


(III) Palestine and Israel

Israeli-Palestinian conflict has killed 71,667 people in the Gaza Strip.On January 31, Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes on targets in the Gaza Strip, including police stations, residential buildings, and tents housing displaced persons, killing 28 people and wounding dozens.The Gaza Government Media Office stated that from the entry into force of the ceasefire on October 10, 2025, to January 31, 2026, there had been 1,450 serious violations of the ceasefire by Israel, resulting in 524 deaths and 1,360 injuries.Since the outbreak of the latest large-scale Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have killed a total of 71,667 Palestinians and injured 171,483 others.

(IV) Lebanon

Israeli airstrike kills 2, injures 5.On January 26, an Israeli airstrike targeted Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon, killing 2 people and injuring 5.

The Israeli military stated the strike was in response to multiple ceasefire violations by Hezbollah.


(V) Iran

Two accidents kill 6.On January 31, a gas explosion occurred in a residential building in Khuzestan Province, southwestern Iran, killing 5 and injuring 2. The cause was improper operation by residents in violation of safety procedures.On the same day, an explosion hit an eight-story building in Bandar Abbas, Hormozgan Province, killing 1 and injuring 14. The fire chief of Bandar Abbas said the blast was caused by a gas leak and accumulation.


Asia-Pacific

(I) Pakistan

Multiple attacks kill and injure over 100.On January 27, unidentified militants attacked the Latif police checkpoint near Garah Baloch, Tank District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province; no casualties were reported.On the same day, an explosive device attack near the residence of a peace committee member in Abasa Khattak, Lakki Marwat District, wounded 1 passerby.On January 31, militants from the Baloch Liberation Army carried out attacks in Quetta, Nushki, Gwadar and other areas of Balochistan Province, southwestern Pakistan, killing 18 civilians.During the clashes, security forces killed 92 terrorists, while 15 security personnel were killed.

On January 29, Pakistani security forces conducted a targeted operation against a terrorist hideout in Kharnai area, Balochistan Province, killing 41 terrorists and seizing a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and explosives.


(II) Thailand

Bangkok shooting kills 2.On January 28, a shooting incident triggered by a business dispute occurred in Bang Kapi District, Bangkok, killing 2 people.

A grocery store owner opened fire twice on a rival and his family after an argument. The suspect has been arrested.


(III) Azerbaijan

Terrorist plot foiled.On January 27, Azerbaijan’s State Security Service foiled a terrorist attack targeting the Israeli Embassy in Baku, arresting 3 suspects linked to the Islamic State.

The three IS-affiliated members carrying explosive devices were detained while approaching the embassy. Investigations are ongoing.


(IV) Japan

Chinese citizen robbed in Tokyo.On January 29, a Chinese citizen was attacked with tear gas near Ueno, Tokyo, and the luggage of four accompanying people was stolen.The Chinese Embassy in Japan has lodged representations with the Japanese side, urging police to solve the case quickly and protect the safety and property of Chinese citizens.The embassy reminded Chinese citizens to avoid traveling to Japan recently, and those already in Japan to closely monitor the security situation and strengthen precautions. In case of emergency, contact local police and the Chinese embassy or consulates.

Africa

(I) Nigeria

Multiple attacks kill 45, many abducted.According to a security monitoring report by Hanwei International’s West Africa officer:
  • January 26: Militants suspected to be from Islamic State West Africa Province attacked a forward military base in Damasak community, Mobbar Local Government Area, Borno State, killing 8 soldiers.

  • January 27 noon: Militants attacked Guga village, Bakori Local Government Area, Katsina State, killing 3 police officers and wounding 2.

  • January 28 night: Suspected Biafran separatist militants attacked Okporojo community, Edda Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, killing at least 5 civilians and abducting several others.

  • January 29 night: Militants attacked Jindani and Mai villages, Yauri Local Government Area, Kebbi State, killing several civilians and abducting many.

  • January 29: Militants attacked Gwargwaba village, Nahuce community, Bungudu Local Government Area, Zamfara State, killing at least 4 civilians.

  • January 29: Suspected Boko Haram militants attacked a construction site near Wajirko village, Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State, killing at least 25 laborers and wounding several.

Security Alert:Criminal groups plan to target foreigners, especially Chinese citizens, in Oyo, Ogun, Kwara, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Niger States and the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja).

Chinese enterprises and individuals are advised to strengthen security and avoid non-essential outings.


(II) South Africa

Clash in Durban kills 4.On January 29, a shootout between police and suspects occurred in KwaMakhutha, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal Province, killing 4 suspects.Police said the suspects were involved in serious violent crimes including kidnapping and armed robbery. They were shot dead after resisting arrest.

On January 29, a collision between a taxi and a truck occurred in Isipingo, south of Durban, killing 11 people. The cause is under investigation.


(III) Kenya

Attack in Garissa kills 2.On January 26, Al-Shabaab militants attacked Hulugho, Garissa County, northeastern Kenya near the Somali border, killing 1 local administrative official and 1 teacher.Militants first attacked a police station, then killed a wanted chief at his home; a nearby teacher was shot dead while fleeing.

A joint investigation team is probing the attack.


(IV) Niger

Attack at Niamey airport kills 30, injures 4.On January 29, unidentified militants attacked the area around Diori Hamani International Airport in Niamey.Defense and security forces repelled the attack, killing at least 20 attackers and arresting 11; 4 military personnel were wounded.Islamic State claimed responsibility.The Chinese Embassy in Niger reminded Chinese citizens to monitor the security situation, enhance vigilance, strengthen security, reduce non-essential travel, and ensure personal safety.
Nigerien army patrol attacked.On January 26, a Nigerien army patrol was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED) in Balchawal, about 20 km northeast of Niamey, causing unspecified casualties.

Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) claimed responsibility.


(V) Ethiopia

Armed conflict erupts in Tigray.On January 29, fresh fighting broke out in Tigray Region between the Ethiopian National Defense Force and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).No casualty figures have been released.

Banks, businesses and schools in Mekelle, the regional capital, have partially closed; Ethiopian Airlines flights to Tigray have been suspended.


(VI) Sudan

Armed conflict continues.From January 26 to February 1, clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces continued across Sudan, with intense fighting in South Kordofan.The health department in Al-Dilling reported large-scale drone attacks on military bases, markets and schools, killing dozens of civilians, wounding over 100 and displacing many.UN Secretary-General Guterres again called for an immediate ceasefire and protection of civilians and humanitarian access.


Europe and Americas

(I) United States

Two shootings wound 6.On January 27, a shootout occurred as U.S. Border Patrol agents intercepted a human trafficking suspect in Arivaca, Pima County, Arizona; the suspect was seriously injured.

On January 31, a shooting during a Mardi Gras parade in Clinton, Louisiana, wounded 5 people.


(II) Ukraine

Russia-Ukraine conflict continues.From January 26 to February 1, Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine continued.The Russian Defense Ministry reported large-scale and cluster strikes targeting Ukrainian military-industrial facilities, energy and transport infrastructure. Russian air defense shot down 822 Ukrainian drones within a week and seized 6 settlements in Kharkiv, Sumy, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia.The General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces stated Ukrainian forces repelled Russian advances and struck Russian troop concentrations, drone control sites and command posts, shooting down 555 Russian tactical drones.

On January 29, Russia handed over 1,000 bodies of Ukrainian soldiers and received 38 bodies of Russian soldiers.


(III) Mexico

Attack in Guanajuato kills 11, injures 12.On January 26, media reported a shooting at a football stadium in Salamanca, Guanajuato State on January 25, killing 11 and injuring 12.Armed attackers stormed the field after a match. The motive is under investigation.

(IV) Russian Federation

Ukrainian attacks kill 1,065 civilians in one year.On January 30, Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Miroshnik stated that Ukrainian attacks in 2025 killed 1,065 Russian civilians and injured 6,483, including 22 children killed and 271 injured.

(V) Ecuador

Nightclub attack in Guayas kills 5.On the evening of January 30, gunmen stormed a nightclub in Durán, Guayas Province, southwestern Ecuador, killing at least 5 people before fleeing.The victims’ identities and motive are under investigation.


Maritime Security

(I) Oman

Boat capsizes, killing 3, injuring 2.On January 28, a boat carrying French tourists capsized off Muscat, Oman, killing 3 French nationals and injuring 2.

The vessel carried 25 tourists, 1 guide and 1 captain. The cause is under investigation.


(II) United States

Fishing boat sinks off Massachusetts, 1 dead, 6 missing.On January 30, a fishing boat with 7 people went missing off Massachusetts.The Coast Guard found wreckage and 1 body; 6 crew members remain missing. Search and investigation continue.
