This issue summarizes global security intelligence from202516to12across various regions worldwide.According tosecurity riskassessments, the security levels of these regionsare shown on the global risk map, with Afghanistan, Syria, Myanmar, Pakistan, Nigeria, Sudan, Ukraine, Palestine, and Israel identified as extremely high-risk zones. During this period, these areas experienced frequent security incidents such as armed conflicts and terrorist attacks.Chinese enterprises operating abroad should enhance their security precautions. Middle East Region

(1) Syria

Armed conflict in the north results in 37 deaths.On January 6 and 9, large-scale military clashes erupted in the Manbij area of Aleppo Governorate in northern Syria, killing at least 37 people, including 5 civilians. The conflict involved Syrian armed groups backed by Turkey and Kurdish forces, with most casualties being Syrian fighters. Since December 2024, multiple armed clashes near Manbij have claimed at least 322 lives.

Turkey conducts cross-border operations, killing 36 PKK members.On January 6, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced that its security forces killed 36 members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in northern Syria and northern Iraq on the 5th. Among them, 32 were killed in northern Syria and 4 in northern Iraq.

Stampede in Damascus leaves 3 dead and 5 injured.On January 10, a stampede occurred at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, the capital of Syria, resulting in the deaths of at least 3 women and injuries to 5 children. The incident happened due to overcrowding during a charity event at the mosque.

(2) Iraq

6 ISIS militants killed in Kirkuk Governorate.On January 10, the Iraqi military launched an airstrike on an ISIS hideout in the mountainous area of Kirkuk Governorate in northern Iraq, killing 6 militants, including a senior leader.

70 terrorists killed in 2024.On January 9, Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Service reported that in 2024, it conducted 344 counter-terrorism operations, killing 70 terrorists, arresting 144 individuals, and destroying 310 terrorist hideouts.

(III) Palestine and Israel

The Palestinian-Israeli conflict has resulted in over 46,000 Palestinian deaths.From January 6 to 12, 2025, the Israeli Defense Forces continued airstrikes on central and southern Gaza, causing significant Palestinian casualties. As of January 9, the latest round of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has led to over 46,006 Palestinian deaths, 109,378 injuries, and 11,000 missing persons. On the 8th, the Israeli military launched large-scale attacks on multiple areas in Gaza,resulting in 51 civilian deaths and 78 injuries, with dozens of houses destroyed. On January 8, UNICEF stated that during the first week of 2025, Israeli military strikes in Gaza City, Khan Younis, and the unilaterally designated 'safe zone' of Mawasi killed at least 74 Gaza children.

Shooting incident in the West Bank leaves 3 dead and 7 injured.On January 6, a shooting occurred near the Kedumim Jewish settlement in the West Bank, killing 3 and injuring 7. Two gunmen fired from a car at a bus and another vehicle, causing multiple casualties. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

(IV) Yemen 

Capital Sana'a and other areas hit by U.S. and Israeli airstrikes.On January 8, military bases south of Sana'a, controlled by Yemen's Houthi rebels, and in Amran Province were targeted by U.S. airstrikes seven times, with no reports of casualties or property damage. On January 10, Israeli air force jets struck Houthi military targets along Yemen's west coast and inland, including infrastructure at the Hizaz power station, Hodeidah Port, and Ras Issa Port. The Houthis did not respond.

Gas station explosion in Al-Bayda kills 10 and injures 70.On January 11, an explosion at a gas station in Yemen's Al-Bayda Province triggered a massive fire, killing at least 10 and injuring 70, with severe damage to nearby facilities and buildings. The cause remains under investigation.

(V) Lebanon

Mayor's residence in Bint Jbeil hit by Israeli military strike.On January 8, the mayor's residence in Bint Jbeil, southern Lebanon, was struck by an Israeli Merkava MK4 tank. No casualties have been reported.

 

Asia-Pacific Region

(I) Pakistan

Armed clashes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa leave 21 dead.From January 6 to 7, the Pakistani military engaged in armed clashes with militants at three locations in the northwestern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, resulting in the deaths of 3 soldiers and 19 militants. According to a military report, a total of 383 soldiers were killed in various conflicts in 2024, with 925 militants neutralized.

Two attacks in Balochistan leave 6 dead and 5 injured. On January 7, a police patrol in the Sharifabad area of Quetta, Balochistan, was attacked by unidentified armed individuals, killing 1 officer and injuring 3. On January 8, a military vehicle in the Poganzan area of Kech Zamuran, Balochistan, was targeted by an improvised explosive device, killing 5 soldiers and injuring 2. The 'Balochistan Liberation Army' (BLA) later claimed responsibility for the incident.

(II) Myanmar

Airstrike in Rakhine State kills 40 and injures 20.On January 8, the Myanmar military launched an airstrike on Kyauk Ni Maw village on Ramree Island in Rakhine State, controlled by the ethnic armed group Arakan Army, killing 40 people and injuring at least 20. Hundreds of houses were burned down by the resulting fires.

Chinese consulate in Myanmar issues safety alert.On January 10, the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar issued a safety reminder, stating that recently, multiple Chinese citizens have fallen victim to 'overseas high-paying job' scams, lured into illegally crossing borders to Myawaddy, Myanmar, to engage in telecom fraud. The embassy reiterated warnings to Chinese citizens to remain vigilant against telecom and online fraud, enhance awareness and capabilities to identify scams, and not to trust so-called 'overseas high-paying job' offers to avoid falling into fraud traps and endangering life and property. Those who encounter fraud are advised to report to local police and seek help from the Chinese Embassy or consulates in Myanmar.

(III) Japan

Attack in Machida City, Tokyo, injures 8.On January 10, an attack occurred at the Tama campus of Hosei University in Machida City, Tokyo, injuring 8 people. A 22-year-old female student assaulted multiple students in a classroom with a hammer before being arrested by police. Authorities are conducting a detailed investigation into the case.

(IV) India

Roadside bomb attack in Chhattisgarh kills 9.On January 6, a police patrol vehicle in Bijapur district, central Chhattisgarh, was hit by a roadside bomb, killing 8 officers and 1 driver. No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Stampede in Andhra Pradesh leaves 6 dead and 40 injured.On January 8, a stampede occurred at the entrance of a temple in Andhra Pradesh, southern India, resulting in at least 6 deaths and 40 injuries. Thousands of devotees had gathered in front of the temple that day to wait for the distribution of religious event tickets. During the wait, a woman fell ill, and when police opened the gates to assist her, the crowd surged forward, triggering the stampede.

Africa Region

(1) Nigeria

Multiple attacks leave 28 dead and 46 kidnapped.On January 5, bandits attacked a small town in Zamfara State, northwestern Nigeria, kidnapping at least 46 people, including women and children. That evening, dozens of armed militants on motorcycles fired into residential areas and set several houses ablaze, abducting dozens before fleeing the scene. On January 6, a bomb explosion occurred at a school in Bwari, a suburb of Abuja, Nigeria's capital, killing 2 and injuring 2. Preliminary investigations revealed that three men from Katsina State had entered the school under the pretext of visiting the principal, bringing an explosive device with them. Two of the men were killed when the device exploded as they placed it in a corridor, while the othercaused injuries to 2 people.No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the incident. On the same day, a cult attack in Owo, Ondo State, resulted in the deaths of 5 people, includingformer youth leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC)Fisayo Oladipupo.On January 7, a government militia convoy in Katsina State, northwestern Nigeria, was ambushed by criminal gangs, leading to the deaths ofat least21 militia members.

Security Alert. According to a monitoring report by Hanwei International's West Africa security officer,17Egedetown in Enugu State,A3Road,9-mile direction,7suspected Fulani militants emerged from dense forests and opened fire on passing vehicles. Chinese enterprises and personnel in Enugu State are urged to enhance security awareness, closely monitor security developments in the region, and improve preemptive and emergency response capabilities.

(2) South Africa

Multiple-vehicle collision in KwaZulu-Natal Province leaves 18 dead and 1 injured.On January 6, a multi-vehicle pileup occurred on the N3 highway at Van Reenen's Pass in KwaZulu-Natal Province, eastern South Africa, resulting in 18 deaths, including 5 children, and 1 infant seriously injured. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.

(3) Chad 

Attack on presidential palace leaves 20 dead and 9 injured.On January 8, unidentified armed militants attacked the presidential palace in N'Djamena, the capital of Chad, killing 2 soldiers and leaving 18 attackers dead. That day, 24 armed individuals pretended to have a vehicle breakdown and seized the opportunity to attack the guards stationed at the entrance of the presidential palace, attempting to storm the building. The Chadian military swiftly blocked all roads leading to the presidential palace and engaged in a firefight with the attackers around the premises. Chad's security authorities stated that the attack was linked to the extremist group Boko Haram. The situation has now been brought under control.

(4) Sudan

Armed clashes continue.From January 6 to 12, 2025, the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces continued intense exchanges of fire in areas surrounding the capital Khartoum, the western city of Omdurman, and multiple fronts in the central region.On January 10, the Sudanese Armed Forces announced the recapture of Wad Madani, the capital of Al Jazirah State in central Sudan, and the Um Gura area in the east. The ongoing armed conflict, which has lasted over a year, has resulted in approximately 30,000 deaths and displaced more than 12.3 million people in Sudan. 

(5) Angola

Cholera outbreak claims 12 lives.On January 10, statistics released by Angola's Ministry of Health showed that since the country reported its first cholera case on December 31 last year, a total of 119 cholera cases and 12 deaths have been recorded. The outbreak is primarily concentrated in Cacuaco Municipality, Luanda Province, the capital.

 

Europe and the Americas

(1) United States 

2 shooting incidents leave 1 dead and 5 injured.On January 6, a shooting occurred at a bar in southwestern Tucson, Arizona, injuring 4 people; the same day, a shooting outside the main entrance of the Honduran Consulate General in Atlanta, Georgia, left 1 dead and 1 injured, with the shooter arrested by police. According to statistics from the U.S. Gun Violence Archive, in the first week of 2025, the U.S. has already witnessed over 200 fatal shootings, more than 450 non-fatal shootings, and 5 mass shootings (excluding the shooter) resulting in at least 4 casualties.

Los Angeles wildfires claim 16 lives.From January 7 to 10, large-scale wildfires continued to erupt in the Los Angeles area of California, USA, resulting in at least 11 deaths, 13 missing persons, over 180,000 evacuations, more than 10,000 buildings destroyed, and losses amounting to tens of billions of dollars. Currently, the fires are still spreading, with the burned area exceeding 37,000 acres (approximately 150 square kilometers).

(II) Ukraine 

Ongoing Armed Conflict Between Russia and UkraineFrom January 6 to 12, 2025, Russia's special military operation in Ukraine continued. The Russian Ministry of Defense recently released a combat report stating that over the past week, the Russian Armed Forces conducted 28 cluster strikes on Ukrainian military targets using high-precision weapons and drones. They destroyed Ukrainian military airfields, ammunition depots, attack drone assembly workshops, and temporary bases for Ukrainian troops and foreign mercenaries, seized control of three settlements including Kurakhove, and fully captured the city of Kurakhove in the Donetsk region. They intercepted 8 U.S.-made Army Tactical Missile System missiles, 41 HIMARS rockets, shot down 689 drones, and downed one MiG-29 fighter jet. In the border area of Kursk Oblast, they repelled multiple Ukrainian offensives. On the Ukrainian side, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine claimed that during the week, Ukrainian forces carried out high-precision strikes on a Russian Marine Brigade command post in the Kursk region and destroyed a drone hangar. They also launched drone attacks on military-industrial enterprises in Russia's Rostov and Leningrad Oblasts. Ukrainian forces repelled multiple Russian offensives in the directions of Kharkiv, Pokrovsk, and Kurakhove.

(III) Mexico

Clash in Guanajuato Leaves 10 Dead and 3 Injured.On January 6, Mexican military and police clashed with local criminal gangs in Yuriria, Guanajuato, resulting in 3 soldiers injured, 10 militants killed, and the seizure of firearms and stolen vehicles.

Shooting in Villahermosa Leaves 7 Dead and 5 Injured.On January 6, media reported that a shooting occurred on the 5th in Villahermosa, the capital of Tabasco in southeastern Mexico, killing 7 and injuring 5. A group of armed individuals stormed a bar named "Blue House" and opened fire on patrons, leaving multiple victims before fleeing. According to a report by Mexico's National Public Security System Executive Secretariat, in the first 11 months of 2024, Mexico recorded 27,794 homicides, averaging about 83 per day, a 1.47% increase compared to the same period last year.

(4) Germany

Shooting in Baden-Württemberg leaves 2 dead and 1 injured.On January 7, a shooting occurred in Bad Friedrichshall, Heilbronn County, Baden-Württemberg, southwestern Germany, resulting in the deaths of 2 men and severe injuries to 1 person. The identity of the attacker remains unknown, and the police are conducting an intensive manhunt for the suspect.

(5) Russia

Multiple locations attacked by Ukrainian drones.On January 8, an oil depot at the Russian Air Force's Engels Air Base in Saratov Oblast was attacked by a Ukrainian drone, causing an explosion. On the same day, Saratov City, the capital of Saratov Oblast, and Engels City were hit by Ukrainian drone strikes, triggering large fires. Engels City declared a state of emergency. On January 11, two residential buildings in Kotovsk, Tambov Oblast, were attacked by Ukrainian military drones, injuring several people and damaging the buildings. The same day, Belgorod Oblast was targeted by Ukrainian drones, with debris from the drones damaging 3 private homes.

(6) Haiti

Gang violence claims over 5,600 lives in 2024.A report released by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on January 7 revealed that gang violence in Haiti in 2024 resulted in at least 5,601 deaths, 2,212 injuries, and 1,494 kidnappings. The death toll increased by over 1,000 compared to 2023.

(7) Ecuador

Armed attack in Manabí Province leaves 5 dead.On January 9, an armed attack occurred in Manta, a coastal city in Manabí Province, western Ecuador, killing 5 people. A group of armed assailants stormed a two-story building in Manta and opened fire, leaving 4 dead at the scene and 1 dead after being hospitalized. Police stated that the attack may be linked to drug trafficking activities in Manabí Province.

 

Maritime Security

(1) Red Sea

Houthis claim attack on US aircraft carrier.Yahya Saree, spokesperson for Yemen's Houthi rebels, stated that on January 6, 10, and 11, they launched three attacks in the Red Sea using cruise missiles and drones targeting the US aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman and its escort ships. The US has not responded to these claims.
