During this period, these areas experienced frequent armed conflicts, terrorist attacks, and other security incidents.Chinese enterprises operating abroad must enhance their security precautions. Middle East Region

(1) Syria

Multiple areas hit by Israeli airstrikes.On May 12, media reported that Syria's capital Damascus and the southern Daraa province were struck by Israeli airstrikes on the 11th, resulting in casualties and damage to infrastructure.

(2) Palestine and Israel

Palestinian death toll in conflict with Israel reaches 53,000.From May 12 to 18, the Israeli military continued attacks on Gaza, causing heavy casualties. On May 15, the Israel Defense Forces launched large-scale airstrikes targeting refugee camps, residential areas, and medical facilities in southern, central, and northern Gaza, killing at least 143 Palestinians and injuring hundreds. As of May 16, Israel's military operations in Gaza since the latest escalation have claimed 53,119 Palestinian lives and left 120,214 wounded. On May 13, UNICEF and the World Food Programme jointly stated that approximately 470,000 people in Gaza now face "catastrophic levels of food insecurity."

Aftermath of strikes in central Gaza

Israel attacked by Yemen's Houthi forces.On May 13 and 15, missiles from Yemen's Houthi group struck Tel Aviv in central Israel and Ashdod in the south, with no casualties or property damage reported. Israeli media noted that since March 18, when Israel resumed military operations in Gaza, the Houthis have launched nearly 30 ballistic missiles and dozens of drones toward Israel.

(3) Yemen

Israeli airstrikes on ports kill 1, injure 9.On May 17, Israel conducted massive airstrikes on Hodeidah and Salif ports controlled by Yemen's Houthis, killing at least 1 and wounding 9. The Israeli military stated it deployed 15 aircraft to drop about 35 bombs on the two ports in retaliation for Houthi missile attacks against Israel.

(4) Lebanon

Southern Lebanon attacked by Israel.On May 14, the Hasbaya and Nabatieh regions in southern Lebanon were attacked by Israeli drones, with no reports of casualties or property damage yet.

(5) Turkey

Kurdistan Workers' Party disbands.On May 12, the Kurdistan Workers' Party announced a reconciliation agreement with the Turkish government and voluntarily disarmed, marking the end of over 40 years of armed conflict between the two sides. The party also stated that it had fulfilled its "historical mission" after years of struggle.

 

Asia-Pacific Region

(1) Afghanistan

Attack on Kabul hospital kills 5.On May 12, unidentified armed militants attacked the Dasht-e-Barchi Hospital in Kabul, Afghanistan, resulting in 5 deaths. No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack.

(2) Pakistan

Pakistan, India extend ceasefire until 18th.On May 15, Pakistan and India agreed to extend their ceasefire until May 18. Additionally, on May 14, Pakistan handed over an Indian soldier captured during an attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir.

(3) Myanmar

Two attacks in Yangon Region injure 2.On the evening of May 11, a grenade attack targeted a police dormitory in Sanchaung Township, Yangon Region, causing casualties with unspecified numbers. On May 12, a remotely detonated bomb attack by the Yangon East District People's Defense Force struck a military-occupied gymnasium on Federal Road in Mayangone Township, injuring 2 soldiers.

(4) Indonesia

Expired ammunition explosion kills 13.On May 12, an explosion occurred while the Indonesian military was disposing of expired ammunition in a village in Garut Regency, West Java, killing 4 soldiers and 9 civilians. The Indonesian military is currently investigating the cause of the incident.

 

Africa Region

(1) Nigeria

Multiple attacks leave 15 dead. According to a monitoring report by Hanwei International's West Africa security officer, on the evening of May 11, a settlement in the Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State was attacked bysuspected Fulani herders, resulting in at least6 deaths; on May 13 and 14, the terrorist groups Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) successively attacked four military bases in Borno State, northeastern Nigeria, killing at least 7 soldiers and leaving many missing; on May 15,A police checkpoint in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State was attacked by two armed assailants, who were subsequently killed by the police.

Security alert.According to a monitoring report by Hanwei International's security officer in West Africa, bandit groups in Zamfara, Kaduna, and Niger states recently planned to kidnap foreign nationals. Chinese enterprises and citizens in the area are advised to minimize outdoor activities, enhance security defenses, and withdraw field operations to urban areas or evacuate from the aforementioned states.

(II) Mali

Chinese mining camp attacked, 2 Chinese nationals kidnappedOn May 12, a Chinese-operated mining camp in Narena town, Koulikoro Region, 86 km southwest of Mali's capital Bamako, was attacked, resulting in the deaths of 1 Malian and 2 Ghanaians, the kidnapping of 2 Chinese citizens, and the burning of heavy mining equipment. On the same day, the assailants first robbed a Chinese-operated mining camp store before launching an attack on the artisanal gold mining site. After the incident, the al-Qaeda-linked Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) claimed responsibility for the attack.

(III) Chad

Violent clashes in the south leave 35 dead and 6 injured.On May 14, violent clashes erupted in Mandakao village, Sila Province, southern Chad, resulting in 35 deaths and 6 injuries. The situation has since been brought under control, but the Chadian government has not disclosed the identities of the conflicting parties.

(IV) Sudan

Armed conflict continues.From May 12 to 18, the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces engaged in continuous clashes in the capital Khartoum and multiple regions in the north, center, and west, with 15 of Sudan's 18 states now engulfed in war. This week, the situation in North Darfur further deteriorated, particularly in refugee camps in areas like El Fasher, Zamzam, and Abu Shouk, which were repeatedly attacked, causing significant civilian casualties. The over two-year-long armed conflict has resulted in approximately 30,000 deaths and displaced more than 13 million people in Sudan. Additionally, severe shortages of food, drinking water, and medicine have left residents facing a dire humanitarian crisis.The UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Clementine Nkweta-Salami, called for an immediate ceasefire in North Darfur to facilitate humanitarian aid for civilians.

(V) Democratic Republic of the Congo

Attack on Chinese mining site in Maniema Province leaves 2 dead.On May 14, the "Zwa idée" mining site operated by Chinese entities in the Lubutu area of Maniema Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), was attacked by unidentified armed militants, resulting in the deaths of one Chinese citizen and one local police officer. On the same day, multiple assailants subdued one police officer at the scene before breaking into the camp, killing another officer and a Chinese citizen. They fled after stealing a large amount of cash and gold.

 

Europe and America

(1) United States 

Las Vegas shooting leaves 2 dead and 3 injured.On May 16, a shooting occurred at a gym in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, killing two people, including the suspect, and injuring at least three others. Police reported that the suspect entered the scene armed with a rifle and carried out a targeted shooting. The attacker was shot dead by responding officers.

California explosion leaves 1 dead and 5 injured.On May 17, an explosion occurred outside a medical facility in Palm Springs, California, USA, killing at least one person and injuring five others. A car and the clinic building were severely damaged.Source of the explosionmay have beena car bomb or nearby explosive device in front of the building.TheFederal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)statedthat the explosion was highly powerful andan intentional act of terrorism". Currently,the FBI has launched an investigation, but it remains unclear whether it was an act of domestic or international terrorism.

  MexicoNavy training ship collides with bridge, injuring multiple people.On the evening of May 17, the Mexican Navy training ship "Cuauhtémoc" struck the Brooklyn Bridge while navigating the East River in New York City, USA, resulting in 2 deaths and 17 injuries. At the time of the incident, the ship was on a promotional tour with 277 people on board.

(2) Ukraine 

Ongoing armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine.From May 12 to 18, Russia's special military operation in Ukraine continued. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported on the 16th that Russian forces made advances in the Donetsk region this week, liberating six settlements including Torske and Kotlyarivka.Precision strikes destroyed Ukrainian military-industrial facilities, including production lines for Neptune missile components and unmanned boat manufacturing sites. Combat groups inflicted heavy casualties on Ukrainian forces, while Russian air defense systems intercepted930 drones and 35 U.S.-made JDAM smart bombs. Ukraine claimed that this week,its forces shot down73 drones and successfully repelled multiple waves of Russian assaults on the eastern front.In directions such as Toretsk, they destroyed14 pieces of Russian military equipment. On the southern front, Ukrainian forces conducted precision drone strikes, destroying Russian assembly points and bunker facilities.

Russia and Ukraine initiated direct negotiations.On May 16, Ukrainian and Russian delegations began negotiations in Istanbul, Turkey, regarding a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine crisis. The talks concluded the same day, with both sides reaching a consensus on exchanging 1,000 prisoners of war. However, significant differences remained on core issues such as ceasefire conditions, territorial sovereignty, and Ukraine's potential NATO membership.

(3) Ecuador

Multiple attacks result in 4 deaths and 3 injuries. On May 12, a shooting occurred on Salvador Bravo Street in Solanda, Quito, Ecuador, resulting in 2 deaths and 1 injury. On the same day, a homicide in the El Troje area of southern Quito left 2 dead. Also on May 12, an explosive attack took place at the intersection of Mario Minuche Street and Eugenio Cajamarca Avenue in the La Unión community of Santa Rosa, El Oro Province, injuring 2 people and damaging at least 9 houses.

(4) Mexico

3 shootings leave 3 dead and 2 injured. On May 13, a shooting in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico, injured 2 people. The same day, another shooting in the San Pedro community of Navolato, Sinaloa, killed 2. On May 14, 23-year-old Mexican model and beauty blogger Valeria Márquez was fatally shot during a live broadcast at a beauty salon in Zapopan, Jalisco.

Traffic accident in Puebla State claims 21 lives.On May 15, a tanker truck collided with two passenger buses on a highway from Puebla to Oaxaca, Mexico, killing 21 people. The tanker lost control, rolled into a valley, and caught fire, severely damaging the two buses.

(5) Guyana

Guyana-Venezuela border attack incident.On May 15, the Guyanese military reported three attacks on patrol units along the border with Venezuela, resulting in no casualties. Armed individuals disguised as civilians launched three assaults from the Venezuelan side of the Cuyuni River against Guyanese Defense Force units conducting river patrols. The Guyanese military exercised restraint. Venezuela has not responded to the incidents.

 

Maritime Security

(1) Mozambique

Ship attacked near Cabo Delgado ProvinceOn May 12, media reported that the Russian oceanographic research vessel 'Atlantida K-1704' was attacked approximately 4 nautical miles east of Tambuzi Island in the waters near Cabo Delgado Province, Mozambique, on the 11th, with no casualties. On the same day, armed militants approached the vessel in two speedboats and opened fire. The attacked ship quickly moved into deeper waters to evade the assault. It is reported that the attackers were militants from the 'Islamic State,' marking the group's first attack on a foreign vessel. In response, Chinese citizens engaged in maritime operations in the western Indian Ocean, Chinese-funded enterprises, and Chinese-flagged vessels passing through Mozambican waters are reminded to enhance security precautions to ensure the safety of personnel, property, and vessels.

(2) Indonesia

Tour boat capsizes in Bengkulu waters, leaving 7 dead and 34 injured.On May 12, a tourist boat carrying 104 people capsized in the waters near Bengkulu Province, southwest of Sumatra Island, Indonesia, resulting in 7 deaths and 34 injuries. On the same day, the boat's engine malfunctioned and shut down during its return voyage, causing the vessel to take on water and sink. Currently, the police have launched an investigation into six individuals, including the captain.
