Hanwei Global Security Information

 

This issue summarizes the dynamics of security intelligence information in various regions around the world from February 24th to March 2nd, 2025. According to the security risk assessment, the security levels of various regions are as shown on the global risk map. Afghanistan, Syria, Myanmar, Pakistan, Nigeria, Sudan, Ukraine, Palestine, Israel and other regions are classified as extremely high-risk areas. During this period, armed conflicts, terrorist attacks and other security incidents occurred frequently in these regions. Chinese-funded enterprises stationed abroad need to enhance their own security precautions. This information is only for internal risk assessment purposes of our company.

 The Middle East region

(1) Syria

The armed conflict in the capital has caused many casualties. On February 24th, armed conflicts broke out between Syrian security forces and the armed forces of the former regime in the suburbs of the capital Damascus, resulting in one death and two injuries in the Security Service of the Syrian Transitional Government, several casualties among the armed personnel of the former regime, and one arrest.

The south was hit by Israeli air strikes. On February 25th, the Kiswo area in southern Syria near the capital Damascus and the Izra area in Daraa Province were hit by Israeli air strikes. There are no reports of casualties or property damage for the time being. The Israeli military said that it launched attacks on multiple military targets in southern Syria, including the command center and the weapons depot, that night, aiming to eliminate the military threat to Israel.

Twelve people were killed in a Turkish air strike in the northeastern region. On February 26th, Turkish fighter jets launched 16 air strikes on multiple areas in Hasakh Province in northeastern Syria, resulting in the deaths of four armed members of the "Syrian Democratic Forces" and eight civilians. The targets of the air strike on that day included a military position in the Shadadi area in the south of Hasakah Province, some residential buildings and a civilian vehicle on the highway from Hasakah Province to Deir Ez-Zor Province.

(2) Palestine and Israel

The conflict between Palestine and Israel has claimed 48,365 lives in the Gaza Strip. On February 24th, the Israel Defense Forces launched another attack on towns near Hebron and Ramallah in the West Bank of Palestine. On February 27th, the health department of the Gaza Strip issued a statement saying that in the past 48 hours, Israeli attacks have caused 17 deaths and 19 injuries in the Gaza Strip. As of that day, since the outbreak of the new round of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the military operations of the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip have caused 48,365 Palestinians to die and 111,780 to be injured.

A car rammed into a crowd in Caesarea, resulting in one death and 14 injuries. On February 27th, a car ramming into a crowd occurred near a bus stop in Caesarea, northern Israel, injuring 14 people. The attacker was shot dead by the police. On that day, a car suddenly accelerated and crashed into the crowd waiting for the bus at the bus stop, and then hit a nearby police car. The police said that the attacker was a Palestinian man from Jenin in the West Bank and was shot dead on the spot by the police.

(3) Turkey

Fifty-nine suspects of extremist organizations have been arrested. On February 24th, the Turkish police launched a large-scale arrest operation against the armed members of the extremist group "Islamic State" in the capital Istanbul. A total of 59 suspects of the organization were arrested, and a large number of weapons, explosive devices and propaganda materials were seized at the same time.

The Kurdistan Workers' Party announced its dissolution. On March 1st, Turkish media reported that the Kurdistan Workers' Party stated that it would respond to the call of its imprisoned leader Abdullah Ocalan, lay down its arms and disband. The Kurdistan Workers' Party demands that the Turkish government release Ocalan. In response, Turkish President Erdogan said that he hopes the Kurdistan Workers' Party will keep its promise; otherwise, military operations will be resumed.

  (4) Lebanon

   Hezbollah facilities in the Bekaa Valley were attacked by the Israeli army. On February 25th, Hezbollah targets in the Bekaa Valley region of Lebanon were hit by Israeli air strikes. The number of casualties and property damage is unknown. The Israeli army said that the target of this attack was Hezbollah's strategic weapons production and storage facilities in the region. The existence of these facilities violates the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon. The Lebanese Hezbollah has not responded to this for the time being. In addition, on February 26, the Israeli Air Force carried out precise strikes in the Qassr region of Lebanon, resulting in the death of one "important" member of Hezbollah.

(V) Iran

Two people were killed in an armed attack in Sistan and Balochistan Province. On March 1st, an armed attack occurred in Sistan and Baluchistan Province in southeastern Iran, resulting in the deaths of two members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. On that day, in the area near the border with Pakistan, two members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were attacked and killed by a group of armed men while driving home. At present, the identity of the attacker remains unknown.

 The Asia-Pacific region

(1) Afghanistan

Heavy rain triggered floods, resulting in 36 deaths and 9 injuries. On February 25th, heavy rain triggered floods and landslides in Farah Province in western Afghanistan and Kandahar Province in southern Afghanistan, resulting in 36 deaths and 9 injuries.

(2) Pakistan

Multiple attacks left 13 dead and 31 injured. On February 24th, a Chinese project convoy escorted by Pakistani security forces was ambushed by armed personnel on the Quetta - Karachi Expressway in Balochistan Province, Pakistan. Seven Pakistani security personnel were killed and 11 were injured, and the vehicles were severely damaged. On the same day, the security force inspection station in Upper Salaroga, South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province was attacked by the Pakistani Taliban. The number of casualties is unknown. On February 25th, Ayub Mollahzai, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (ML-N), was shot dead in Washuk, Balochistan Province. On February 28th, an explosion attack occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhor Province in northwestern Pakistan, resulting in 5 deaths and 20 injuries. So far, no organization has claimed responsibility for this attack.

(3) The Philippines

A professor in Kota Bharto was ambushed and killed. On February 26th, a professor from the University of Notre Dame in Cotabato City, southern Philippines, was ambushed and killed. On that day, the victim was shot by two men on a motorcycle while driving home. At present, the identity of the attacker remains unknown and the police have launched an investigation.

(4) South Korea

The attack in Gwangju City resulted in one death and one injury. On February 26th, an attack occurred in Gwangju City, South Korea, resulting in one death and one injury. Early that morning, two women were followed by a man in a small alley in Dong District, Gwangju City, and then called the police. The police arrived at the scene and were stabbed by the suspect. Subsequently, the police shot and killed the suspect.

The collapse of a bridge in South Chungcheong Province has killed four people, including two Chinese citizens. On February 25th, a bridge collapse occurred at the construction site of the Sejong Expressway in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, South Korea, resulting in the deaths of four people, including two Chinese citizens, and injuries to one Chinese citizen and five South Koreans. At present, the Korea Highway Corporation is working with the construction company, Hyundai Engineering Company, to investigate the cause of the accident and discuss the aftermath.

 The African region

(1) Nigeria

Eight people were killed in the attack in Zamfarah State. On February 26th, a trailer truck was attacked by bandits on the Gusho-Dansa Road in the Maru local government area of Zamfarah State in northwestern Nigeria, resulting in at least 8 deaths and over 20 kidnappings. On that day, bandits set up roadblocks on the road. When the towed truck was driving through this section of the road, it was opened fire, resulting in the death of the driver and several passengers, and the rest were kidnapped.

Safety warning. On February 28th, the security officer of Hanwei International stationed in West Africa reported that with the arrival of the rainy season, security risks in the northeastern region of Nigeria have intensified. Terrorist organizations plan to carry out kidnappings or attacks in some areas. The main areas are: the surrounding regions of the major cities in Borno State; The roads between the main cities in Borno State; The border areas of Nigeria with Cameroon and Chad, especially the forested regions near Lake Chad; The forested area at the border between Nigeria and Cameroon within Adamawa State. (2) Ghana

Chinese citizens were robbed with weapons. On February 26th, a vehicle carrying three Chinese citizens was subjected to armed robbery on a section of road near Accra, the capital of Ghana. At the time of the incident, the affected vehicle was followed by a car and forced to stop. Three robbers armed with guns and knives carried out the robbery. They snatched five mobile phones and vehicle keys and then fled the scene. No casualties were caused. At present, the police have intervened in the investigation.

(3) Democratic Republic of the Congo

Armed conflicts continue in the east. From February 24th to March 2nd, the government forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the anti-government armed group "M23 Movement" engaged in continuous exchanges of fire in multiple urban areas of North Kivu and South Kivu provinces in the eastern part of the country. As of now, the conflict in Goma, the capital of North Kivu Province alone has caused more than 8,500 deaths, 5,597 injuries, and over 40,000 people have fled to neighboring Burundi. In addition, two bomb explosions occurred in the central square of Bukavu, the capital of South Kivu Province, on the 27th, resulting in at least 16 deaths and 95 injuries.

Sixty people died from diseases of unknown cause. On February 28th, the health department of the Democratic Republic of the Congo stated that a disease of unknown cause has recently emerged in the country. So far, 1,096 cases have been reported, among which 60 people have died. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle and multiple joint pain, general body aches, cough, vomiting and diarrhea, etc. The type of disease has not yet been determined. At present, local health officials are cooperating with the World Health Organization to conduct an investigation.

(4) Cameroon

A village in the Far North Region was attacked, resulting in one death and one injury. On February 24th, a village in the Far North region of Cameroon was attacked by armed members of the extremist group Boko Haram, resulting in one death and one injury.

(V) Sudan

Armed conflicts continue. From February 24th to March 2nd, the Sudanese armed forces and the Rapid Support Force continued to engage in gunfire in the capital Khartoum and on multiple fronts in central Sudan. As of now, the conflict has caused approximately 29,700 deaths and displaced more than 12.9 million people. Over the past week, due to the escalating conflict in the Zamzam refugee camp and its surrounding areas in North Darfur State, western Sudan, the United Nations World Food Programme has suspended the distribution of food aid to the refugee camp. The agency warned that without aid, thousands of families in the refugee camp could die of hunger in the coming weeks.

Europe and America

(1) The United States  

A shooting incident in South Carolina left one dead and two injured. On March 1st, a shooting incident occurred at a shopping center in Greenville, South Carolina, USA, resulting in one death and two injuries. The deceased was the gunman. At present, the police's initial investigation suggests that the cause of the shooting was a personal conflict, and a detailed investigation is still ongoing.

  Ten people were injured in a stampede in Texas. On March 1st, a stampede occurred in Dallas, a city in northern Texas, USA, leaving 10 people injured. On that day, the National Cheerleading Association All-Star Championship was being held. During the event, two spectators got into a fight due to an argument, which led to several pillars inside the venue being knocked down. A loud noise caused panic, and a stampede occurred as the crowd rushed out of the conference center. After the accident, the police immediately evacuated the people in the venue and the event was suspended.

 A ship capsized in New York City, resulting in 3 deaths and 2 injuries. On February 24th, media reports said that a ship capsized in the waterway between Queens and Staten Island in New York City on the 23rd, resulting in 3 deaths, 2 injuries and 1 person missing. At present, the cause of the collapse is under investigation.

(2) Ukraine 

The armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues. From February 24th to March 2nd, Russia's special military operation in Ukraine continued. The Russian Ministry of Defense recently released a war report stating that in the past week, the Russian military has launched nine rounds of strikes against Ukrainian military industrial enterprises, energy facilities, military airports, military fuel depots, temporary deployment sites for foreign mercenaries, and Ukrainian military drone production and storage facilities using precisions guided weapons and drones. It has controlled multiple settlements in regions such as Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv and Kursk. A mig-29 fighter jet of the Ukrainian army was shot down, and 13 French-made "Hammer" aviation-guided bombs, 20 US-made "Jedam" aviation-guided bombs, 9 US-made "HIMars" rockets, 42 Czech-made rockets and 702 drones of various types were intercepted. Continue to strike the Ukrainian army in the Kursk region; On the Ukrainian side, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces released a battle report stating that within this week, the Ukrainian army repelled the Russian army's offensive in the Kharkiv direction and launched attacks on the Russian army in the Kupiansk, Pokrovsk and Kursk directions. It destroyed Russian tanks, armored combat vehicles, artillery systems, air defense systems, automobiles and other equipment, shot down multiple cruise missiles and hundreds of unmanned aircraft. In addition, the Ukrainian army launched attacks on the border posts of the Russian Federal Security Service in Bryansk Oblast, ammunition storage facilities in the Donetsk region, and a refinery in the Krasnodar Krai of Russia.

(3) Colombia

A bomb attack in Kauca Province left 17 people injured. On February 25th, a bomb explosion occurred in the town of Morales, Cocca Province, southwestern Colombia, injuring 17 people. On that day, a motorcycle carrying a bomb was detonated near the town's police station, causing multiple injuries and damaging the doors and Windows of surrounding shops.

(4) Chile

Three people were killed in the San Diego shooting incident. On February 24th, a shooting incident occurred in Renca, northwest of the Capital Region of Santiago, Chile, resulting in three deaths. On that day, the three victims were walking on the street when they were suddenly shot by three armed men. The police said that the attack was highly targeted and they have launched an investigation into the incident.

(V) Haiti

15 people were killed in an armed attack on the capital Port-au-Prince. On February 25th, the 30th district of Del Mas in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, was attacked by an unknown armed group, resulting in 15 deaths, multiple injuries and several houses being set on fire. Recently, conflicts among Haitian criminal gangs have intensified, with continuous exchanges of fire.

(6) France

The Russian Consulate in Marseille was thrown with burning objects. On February 24th, the Russian Consulate General in Marseille, France, was thrown with burning objects and an explosion occurred, causing damage to the building. So far, there have been no reports of casualties. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that the incident "has all the characteristics of a terrorist attack".

(7) Germany

Four people were injured in a shooting incident in Bielefeld. On February 26th, a shooting incident occurred in Bielefeld, western Germany, leaving four people injured. On that day, a suspect opened fire on pedestrians on a street near the court and fled the scene. At present, the suspect has been arrested. The police said the shooting incident was related to a murder case being tried by the court.

(8) Mexico

Five people were killed in a fire at the Capital Drug Rehabilitation Center. On February 25th, a fire broke out at a drug rehabilitation center in the southwest of Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, resulting in 5 deaths and 6 injuries. At present, the cause of the fire is unknown.

Maritime safety

(1) Red Sea

Us fighter jets were attacked by Houthi armed missiles. On February 22, US officials confirmed that the Houthi forces in Yemen fired two surface-to-air missiles at a US fighter jet and an MQ-9 Reaper drone over the Red Sea, but failed to hit the targets.
